It's Never Too Early to Get Excited

Long time no talk folks. I've been at school the last couple of months pounding my head against desks so that one day I can make video games instead of just writing about them.

Anyway...

With Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 being released in 4 hours (West Coast time) and it bringing the biggest launch of any piece of media in the history of mankind with it, I've been thinking more and more about hype. It seems a lot of internet people don't like hype, and other than the monotonous fanboys chirping away (that's obvious) I can't see any real reasons why. Isn't it a good thing to be excited? In fact, I'd make the argument that people don't get excited enough these days.

Now before I continue I should mention that when asked, most people say the best year for video game releases ever is either 2007 or 1998. 2007 of course brought the first iteration of Call of Duty 4, Bioshock, The Orange Box, Mass Effect and Super Mario Galaxy. On the other hand, 1998 gave us Ocarina of Time, Pokemon Red/Blue, Resident Evil 2, Halflife and the original Metal Gear Solid. Until now I've been in the 1998 camp, but just looking at the early release list for 2010 is enough for me to get ecstatic goosebumps.

Right now, I'm predicting that 2010 will be the best year for releases of all time. I can think of at least two dozen must play titles off the top of my head and we know almost nothing coming out during the 2010 holiday season (please god let there be a true sequel to Dead Space). So to do my part to give the hype train a kick start, here are my top ten announced titles for 2010:

Honorable Mention: Shinji Mikami and Suda 51's horror game. We all know it's coming but they technically haven't announced it yet (which is why I can't put it as number 1).

10.Mario Galaxy 2
9. Mass Effect 2
8. Final Fantasy XIII
7. Heavy Rain
6. Metroid Other M
5. Bayonetta
4. Bioshock 2
3. The Last Guardian
2. No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle
1. Metal gear Solid: Peace Walker

So what do you guys think? What are you most looking forward to next year?
